Start of Semester: Your Guide to Apps, Cards, and Student IDs
Information on the Uni Bremen Campus app, Mensacard, library card, and more
When you first start at university, you probably have a lot of questions. How do I get to campus? How can I borrow literature? How can I pay on campus?
You have probably already received mail answering some of these questions. After enrollment, you’ll get your login details for the University of Bremen Campus app. Once logged in, you’ll find your student ID, your Deutschlandsemesterticket, and your Kultursemesterticket (cultural semester ticket). The Studierendenwerk and the library issue cards that allow you to use their services. We’ll give you the lowndown of what you need for each situation.
The Student ID and the Campus App
Why do I need a student ID card?
Your student ID confirms that you are enrolled at the University of Bremen this semester. It shows your faculty, registration number, and more. Some institutions and companies offer discounts to students who are enrolled at the University of Bremen and present their ID. By showing your student ID, you can also take advantage of Kultursemesterticket (cultural semester ticket) discounts. You will need your student ID when you collect your library card and Mensacard. It also serves as a voting ID for student council elections.
Where do I find my digital student ID?
You can find your student ID in the University of Bremen Campus app. Your login details will be mailed to your home address along with your enrollment documents before the semester starts.
What are the advantages of the Uni Bremenapp?
The Uni Bremen app lets you have your student ID with you anytime, anywhere. It updates automatically and is also available offline. In emergencies, you’ll receive important information from the University of Bremen directly through the app.
What if I don’t want to use the app?
If you’re unable or prefer not to use the app, you can request a replacement document for your digital student ID through the MOIN student portal.
How do I obtain a European Student Card?
The European Student Card verifies that you are a student throughout Europe. It is already included in your student ID in the Campus app. As the European Student Card is only available as a digital ID, it can only be accessed with the app.

The Deutschlandsemesterticket
How do I get a semester ticket?
Your Deutschlandsemesterticket is already included in the University of Bremen Campus app.
Why do I need the semester ticket?
In conjunction with a photo ID, the Deutschlandsemesterticket allows you to use public transportation in Germany. This includes buses, underground trains, commuter trains, trams, and regional trains. It also covers a few individual ferry and cross-border connections, but double-check these with the providers in advance. The Deutschlandsemesterticket does not include free bike transportation in any trains (you’ll need to purchase this separately), nor does it cover long-distance transportation, meaning you cannot use it for FlixBuses, FlixTrains, or ICE and IC/EC trains. You are only allowed to sit in second class. The AStA students’ union provides further information about the ticket and current area of validity.

The Library Card
Why do I need a library card?
With a library card, you can borrow books from any of the State and University Library Bremen (SuUB) locations. The central lending desk has self-service borrowing stations where you can check out books independently. Just insert your library card and follow the instructions on the display. How do I get a library card?
Library cards must be applied for using an online form on the Bremen State and University Library (SuUB) website. You can collect your card at the Central Library on Universitäts-Boulevard, the Branch Library for Engineering and Social Sciences, the Branch Library for Economics and Nautical Sciences, or the Branch Library in Bremerhaven. Cards are valid for 12 months but can be renewed. They cannot be collected at other branch libraries. You will need your national ID and student ID to collect your card.
The Mensacard
Why do I need a Mensacard?
With a Mensacard, you can make cashless payments at many places on campus. You can use it to pay at the Studierendenwerk’s dining facilities, at vending machines, washing and drying machines in the residential complexes, and at printers and photocopiers in SuUB libraries.

How do I get a Mensacard?
You will need to collect your Mensacard in person at a service point in the university campus dining hall (Mensa), the Mensa Neustadtswall dining hall, the Airport and Werderstraße campus dining hall checkouts, or at the Studierendenwerk’s Bremerhaven cafeteria. You will need your national identity card and student ID, a five euro deposit, and at least five euros for your initial balance. The Mensacard is a prepaid card. You can top up using cash or an EC card at machines in the university’s dining halls (Mensa) and cafeteria. All top-up locations are listed on the Studierendenwerk website.
The Kultursemesterticket (cultural semester ticket)
Why do I need a Kultursemesterticket?
With a Kultursemesterticket you get free admission to many art and cultural institutions in Bremen.
